About
Peter Culmer is Professor of Healthcare Engineering, leading the Healthcare Mechatronics research group at the University of Leeds. His research concerns the development of sensing and automation technology and their application to address global healthcare challenges, with a particular focus on under-represented groups and conditions.
Peter is a committee member of the UK IMechE Biomedical Engineering Division (BMeD) and engineering representative of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Surgical MedTech Cooperative, working with healthcare and industry professionals on medical device innovation. He leads a multinational and interdisciplinary team in developing RAIS, a novel surgical system for low-resource settings, currently under clinical evaluation. He is also leading work to develop clinically-focussed assessment methods for Diabetic Foot Ulceration and working in an academic and industry collaboration to develop technologies for sustainable medical devices.
