About the Speaker
Michael is Head of Supply Resilience and Sustainability in the Medical Technologies and Innovation Directorate at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). His team has responsibility for delivering the Design for Life programme, which aims to deliver a circular economy for MedTech by 2045 through greater reuse, remanufacture and recycling. Michael has worked as a civil servant for DHSC for 8 years, leading a range of policies including for EU Exit, Occupational Health, Blood and Organ Donation/Transplantation and Substances of Human Origin (SoHO). Prior to that he worked as a Research Consultant for the national agency for sports coaching and in the private sector, focusing on education and skills.

This session will highlight both policy developments and practical progress the NIHR has made in the sustainability space since last year. The focus is on MedTech SMEs and the premarket authorisation space and the aim is to get MedTech developers to think about sustainability from different perspectives early on product development.
