The mission of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is to improve the nation's health and wealth through research. The NIHR Invention for Innovation (i4i) programme (https://www.nihr.ac.uk/funding-programmes/invention-for-innovation) is a translational research funding scheme aimed at medical devices, in vitro diagnostic devices and digital health technologies aimed at addressing an existing or emerging health or social care need.

We fund innovations that have demonstrated proof-of-concept and have a clear pathway towards adoption and commercialisation. The i4i programme has 3 funding streams:
