REDUX™ Wave Springs from Lee Spring – an enabling technology
Lee Spring REDUX™ wave springs offer a way of performing a spring function in minimal spaces – even perhaps where no other spring could work effectively. Typically, REDUX wave springs occupy just 30-50% of the compressed height space of the conventional round wire springs, yet they offer more deflection with the same load specifications. This not only helps to save space in the applications but also reduces the production costs, as fewer materials are required and often enable devices that would not otherwise be feasible. Wave spring applications typically include connectors, pumps, clutches, seals, medical equipment and valves. All these applications require springs that offer uniform force distribution and/or uniform rotational pressure over 360° in restricted spaces. A wave spring’s design is similar to a compression spring, but the wire used is coiled and flat. Waves are added along the coils to give a spring effect. They are often used instead of round wire compression springs in space-critical environments that require tight load deflection. Typically wave springs come in a wave top to wave top format manufactured from a single filament of Type 17-7 Stainless Steel flat wire formed in continuous precise coils with uniform diameters and waves. REDUX wave springs are offered in diameters from .375" (9.52mm) to 1.25" (31.75mm) to meet load requirements from 4lbs (1.8kg) to 30lbs (13.6kg). Wave springs are suitable for static and slightly dynamic load applications. More dynamic applications require special solutions because the additional stress put on the waves is likely to cause abrasion of the materials at the point of contact, in this case customers should contact Lee Spring to discuss relevant options. REDUX wave springs from Lee Spring are suitable for use in space critical applications where they are designed to replace conventional round wire compression springs when required. REDUX wave springs offer tight load deflection and typically occupy a very small area in relation to the high performance of the spring – this enhances efficiency and reduces operational cost, operating space and permits smaller assemblies. Med-Tech gives us the opportunity to show and discuss the types of services that Boddingtons Plastics can offer to our customers. We've seen really good footfall and had several new leads for new devices. The show has been a great success for us and in fact we've booked for next year already.
MedTech Innovation Expo was a fascinating event that gave us new insight and inspiration into the challenges we face and, more importantly, into the solutions to solve those challenges. We’ve already marked the event on our calendar for next year and we can’t wait to see what progress has been made… and perhaps, more importantly, what progress we can aid with our Aether Engine technology!
It was great to speak at this excellent event, very well attended by the NHS and Industry, well organised and plenty of opportunities for networking. Looking forward to coming again next year!
We’ve managed to get a lot of interest of people... It’s a lot bigger than what we expected, and we’ve managed to find unexpected partnerships with companies we didn’t even know existed. We were here last year but we weren’t exhibiting, and we were impressed with the quality and quantity of exhibitors, so we thought it was worth it this year.
